Burhan Jaffer is a Fellow (Class 1) of The Herndon Directors Institute which was borne out of the need for institutional change that would broaden the participation of minorities and women as active members of boards of directors in both commercial and non-profit settings. The Herndon Directors Institute is a program of The Herndon Foundation, NASDAQ, and a partnership with America’s leading corporations and organizations proactively aligned to expand minority board member participation.
Serving to improve access to education for communities of color as a way of addressing inter-generational poverty by partnering with Mission Society and Bottomline
Mission Society (founded in 1812) facilitates academic enrichment, college access, and workforce development programs in Harlem and at 12 public school programs in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Since our founding, we have provided life-changing opportunities to over 6.5 million New Yorkers and continue to reach approximately 5,500 children and parents each year.
Bottom Line (founded in 1997) has addressed the low college graduation rates of first-generation students from low-income background and serves nearly 9000 students.
